Over the past few years, VK communities transformed from groups based on shared interests to a convenient tool for media, business and arranging events. It's now time to make life even more convenient.
Today we have made the community app platform accessible. Applications can now enlarge the functionality of groups, public pages and events, making these a good alternative for websites and mobile apps. Community apps are already available on all versions of VK.
The opportunities, which are open for users and administrators thanks to the community app platform, are endless. As of now, apps for event registration, ticket purchases and signing up for services, quests, surveys and fun tests, are available for users. And that amount of these apps will keep on growing!
How to Use This
The process of setting up an app doesn't require any tech skills and can happen within a few clicks. On the community settings page in the new section "Applications", there is a catalog of available apps. After selecting one of these, you can adjust the privacy settings and change the button text.
All users and community followers will see the button under the management and settings section or community cover. By pressing the button, you'll be sent to the page with this app.
How to Create an App
The opportunities for community apps are endless, and we encourage developers to create new formats. The platform is open to everyone. Apps that are web pages can be opened inside the VK interface, thereby allowing developers to use any known tools. Get acquainted with the documentation here: vkkcom.ru/dev/community_apps.
You can find and add an app from the catalog in community settings (in the section "Manage community" → "Applications"). We have also created a special widget for adding apps from developer websites.
